General Convention Update

Being in Anaheim for the General Convention of the Episcopal Church was an amazing experience! Energy and excitement permeated the gigantic convention hall. People were there from many parts of the country and the world. Accents abounded. And the weather in California was, of course, perfect. No wonder people want to live there!

I was in Anaheim as an exhibitor, having decided to take a booth in the Exhibition Hall for my ministry - St. Benedict's Toolbox Ministries. Many people stopped by my booth to visit and learn about St. Benedict and my ministry. To all who stopped by, thank you and bless you. I gave away ten copies of St. Benedict's Toolbox and ten blank journals in separate drawings. I also gave a free two-day retreat in a drawing. The winner of the retreat was The Rev. James Liggett of St. Nicholas' Episcopal Church in Midland, Texas.

An attraction in the booth were two display boards covered with pictures and testimonials of people who have attended my programs, so there was a community of "Benedictines" to encourage others to explore the practicality and beauty of this spirituality. I also had four small jigsaw puzzles with "kid-sized" pieces that I created with materials found while haunting A.C. Moore and Michael's. Instead of bunnies and puppies, these jigsaw puzzles were covered with Benedictine thoughts and teachings. The astute puzzler who completed one of the puzzles (easy - only 24 pieces) received a handout of the puzzle just completed. Puzzle topics: 1) The Jigsaw Puzzle of Life, 2) A Welcome to St. Benedict's Toolbox , 3) Ways to Practice the Presence of God, and 4) The Fine Art of Grumbling ! The last puzzle was included especially for General Convention attendees! Being an exhibitor kept me very busy. E ven with helpers (the first part of the Convention with my husband John aka "Gunga Din" and the second half with my long-time friend Mary Beth Starrett), I was not able to attend a Eucharist or one of the sessions.

The first issue of "The Cyber Toolbox" was released at the General Convention. Around 150 people signed up to receive this monthly publication. If you are interested in seeing and/or receiving The Cyber Toolbox, click here.
